SQL SERVER DBA
This position is part of
the Enterprise Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence team, where you will
join two other SQL Server DBA’s. Just two months ago this team started
building the Enterprise Data Warehouse, which is expected to take at least 2
years to complete, making this a ground floor opportunity. This team is in
the process of building a centralized data repository from data on legacy
systems (AS400) to create an enterprise view of the data so it can be used
for multiple functions (marketing, product info, finance, sales, inventory,
etc.). There are currently approximately 80 silos of data that will be
brought into the centralized repository. This is a 4-tiered architecture
environment that has some SQL Server 2000 that will be converted to 2005,
with all new projects on 2005. This company is looking for a person who can
pro-actively plan for capacity and growth changes (EDW is currently at 2
terabytes and rapidly growing) in a clustered and non-clustered environment.
You will be involved in the design, set-up, installation and implementation
of databases, data maintenance (re; indexing, integrity checks, log file
monitoring), performance tuning (indexing, compression drive distribution,
load balancing, replication) and disaster recovery efforts. Percents of time
will depend on the person they hire. There is an opportunity to be
cross-trained within the DW/BI team. You could do as much BI as desired
using/learning Erwin, create, populate and put in Universes. Pluses:
Clustering and Replication, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). Please

As a DBA III you will join
a team of 3 focusing on Clustering, Partitioning, and Replication on SQL
Server 2000 going to SQL Server 2005 this year. This environment is based on
innovation and you will be allowed to push the envelope in order to make a
difference. This company’s revenue has increased 50% each of the past 3
years. You will not have to deal with "red tape", your ideas will be valued,
and you can put together your own plan. You will support the backend of a 2
TB DW that is growing at 3 gigs per day! Your first area will focus on
Performance. Put together a plan to get the OLTP in shape using partitioning
because one table is over 500 gig and another table is over 500 million
rows. Next will be Clustering, only the production environment is clustered.
The development, test, QA, and staging need to be clustered. So you must
have experience with High Availability Clustering. Remote Replication –
currently they have CDP short term for stand by servers to perform Log
Shipping. They are building a second site out West for remote data
replications. Down the road will be Archiving, you will work with the team
for product selection. This group also manages the SAN environment, they
just purchased 2 EMC Clarion CX500 boxes. You will also be exposed to
Oracle, their CRM system runs on Oracle 9i RAC Cluster, going to 10g. You
will still over-see day to day operations also doing installs, upgrades,

database architects, six full-time and two contract DBA’s that perform the
physical DBA work, along with two DB2 mainframe system programmers. The EDM
group supports, DB2, Oracle, and SQL platforms in this OLTP environment. The
mainframe DB2 supports the financial datawarehouse and this company’s
credit/debit datawarehouse. There is also a datawarehouse environment on
DB2/UDB that contains several data marts for marketing and HR. Because of
the size of the staff and number of projects, all of the DBA’s perform the
design/architecture, logical and physical definition and data modeling in
both the test and production environments. The production environment that
the EDM team supports consists of DB2/UDB (18 db’s, 15 servers), DB2/zOS (48
db’s, 4 servers), Oracle (24 db’s, 8 servers), and SQL Server (443 db’s, 116
servers). You will be responsible for leading this organization in the
development and implementation of processes and tools to improve performance
and reliability while partnering with application teams to improve design
and delivery of new apps through more efficient processes and standards.
This position will need to communicate initiatives and deliverables to
executive management while functioning as the primary vendor liaison,
keeping current with trends and technological innovations in the banking I.T.
industry making strategic and tactical recommendations. You will be
responsible for the EDM budget as well. Client is looking to this person to
energize this team toward their common goal. This includes responsibility of
career development, training and salary administration. High level strategic
position! Must have 10 years DBA/Mgmt experience, and a Bachelors Degree.

DATAWAREHOUSE DEVELOPER
As the Datawarehouse
Developer you will join a team of two on the Datawarehouse team. You will
look at the process they have now and shed light on the ETL standards. They
are in survival mode now and need solid standards to become more scalable
and flexible to manage the rapid growth they are experiencing. The
Datawarehouse is collecting three gigs of data per day and is currently at
two TB. You will make a difference by guiding the team in Ralph Kimball
design methodology and Informatica ETL standards Informatica Power Center is
new to this environment. This is a unique environment that has SQL Server
Replication hooked to Informatica Power Exchange that watches for any new
data collected from their web-based Price Quoting Engine to hand off to
Informatica Power Center to be transformed and written out to the target in
Oracle. They currently have over 30 Data Marts using Form Dimensions. There
are 7-8 Data Marts that need developed now for reconciliation, commission,
A/P, G/L. These systems are tied into 17 different customers, credit
agencies, Axiom, etc. to deliver real-time pricing information every 5
seconds. 70-80% ND using the Ralph Kimball methodology. You will perform:
Design real-time DW/DM’s. Create slow changing dimensions. Lead your own
projects. Gather requirements. Design data flow and data mappings. You must
have Informatica Power Center experience, knowledge of the Ralph Kimball
methodology, and know how to do query overwrites in SQL Server. Please

Position H899
B.I. ARCHITECT
As the B.I. Architect you
will join a team of four designing and creating cubes in Cognos 7.3
Enterprise Server while this company is rolling out Cognos 8 Report-Net.
This environment has no red tape and is able to move very quickly. You will
be in charge of all the process from design, build, test and allowed to push
the envelope to write custom controls in Java Script or Style Sheets. This
environment’s DW is growing three GB’s every day! They currently have 40
cubes in production, 12 of those are pointing at the EDW. 28 cubes need to
be re-written since they are pulling from a set of denormalized tables. They
must re-design those cubes to pull from the EDW. New cubes are requested
every day. You must have experience with Cognos Access Manager to apply
dimensional views using Apexing and Cloaking. They have over 400 accounts
and don’t create a cube for each individual customer. So you must have
skills with Access Manager to restrict views so customers can only see their
data in a cube that also contains competitor data. Also know Framework
Manager. The DW consists of SQL Server DM’s, Oracle for EDW using the Ralph
Kimball Star Schema approach. They are converting ETL from DTS to
Informatica Power Center/Exchange. Data is in real-time every 5 seconds. You
will be doing every step in incremental builds: Identify Dimension Model.
Write your own queries and macros. Apply security. Elevate to test.
Production. Admin of cubes/boxes. Increase build speed. Must have Cognos
7.3-8.1 Access Manager (Apexing and Cloaking). Please contact Eric Heineman

team of three focusing on over 50 instances of SQL Server 2000. They are
going to SQL Server 2005 this year as soon as they get a handle on the fast
growth they are experiencing now. This environment has no red tape and is
able to make changes very quickly. This is a rare place where ideas are
valued, everything is based on innovation, and you can put together your own
plan. This department is in the early stages so there is unlimited areas for
you to make a difference. This team does Remote Replication, Partitioning,
SAN, and Clustering! You will support the back-end of a 2 TB DW that is
growing over 3 GIG’s every day! Your first area of focus will be the 50
instances of ancillary systems for monitoring, MAS account package, call
center, etc. that need you to improve performance using T-SQL, Indexing, DTS
packages, Table Scans. If you don’t have Clustering experience, you will
learn. Partitioning is needed where one table is over 500 GIG and another
table has over 500 million rows of data that causes a tremendous performance
impact during the day when they run a statistics report. Remote Replication
– currently they have CDP for short term stand by servers to perform Log
Shipping. They are planning a second-site for Disaster Recovery out West to
have Replication of data. This team also manages the Storage Area Network.
They just purchased two EMC Clarion CX500 boxes. You will also be exposed to
Oracle 9i going to 10g where they have a Rac Cluster on their CRM system.
Currently the SQL Server production environment is Clustered, but the test,
development, QA, and staging is not Clustered yet. 30-40% Logical, 60-70%

Data Mgmt (the business area) and this team is considered the support group.
Currently the business area handles most of the development for ETL. The
manager wants that to change. You will come in and learn the daily load.
Currently they perform a lot of manual synchronization where everything does
not load cleanly. They want to implement scorecards and dashboards. They are
also looking at Real-Time replication. The manager expects you to have at
least 10 years experience so you can drive out requirements and
specifications by asking the right questions. The technical environment is
Oracle sitting on Solaris and Linux with PL/SQL for ETL with about 200+ ETL
batch jobs that run every night. Currently the source to target is 1 to 1
with over 4 TB’s of data. They have Crystal Reports and Business Objects for
reporting. They are looking at 3rd Party packages for ETL. You
must have experience with PL/SQL for ETL, Datamodeling and Metadata
standards. You will interact directly with customers to define business

on DB2 v.7, but are upgrading to v.8. There are about 2400 total DB2
databases that include the development, testing, and production environments
within roughly 120 business critical applications. With all databases
combined, there is 11 or 12 terabytes of data all running under z/OS. The
applications running on these databases include a handful of the bank’s

COGNOS DEVELOPER
As the Cognos Developer
you will join a team of direct-hire ETL Developers, BAs, and a Project
Manager along with some contractors that are currently doing the Cognos
development. Currently all of the reporting is done with Oracle Reports,
with over 300 reports on inefficient Legacy systems, using the operational
database which is dragging these systems down, and require a lot of
maintenance. Going forward, all reports are moving to Cognos, utilizing an
Oracle datawarehouse, which is already in place. They are creating an
operational data store that will mirror the operational database, and will
run the Cognos reports against the ODS, using Oracle datawarehouse builder
for ETL. They have 4-6 cubes up and running on version 8, with more being
designed and developed. It is estimated that they have 50 reports in
constant use, 50 regular use (weekly/monthly) and about 150 with limited use
(yearly), and they feel that they can eliminate about 100 current reports
through consolidation. This position will champion all reporting process,
design, development, reporting standards, efficient and effective ways of
interacting with business, etc. They have prioritized the reports being
moved to Cognos and are initially concentrating in the areas of Academic
Affairs and Marketing and Recruiting. 50% Technical/Code and 50%

environment consists of over 50 instances of DB2 z/OS, over 50 instances of
UDB AIX, and around 24 instances of SQL Server. These databases are
Web-Enabled using Weblogic/J2EE going to WebSphere. These systems run all

must also be familiar with Kimball and Inman methodologies. The big push for
this team is to meet the demand the business has for information. On average
the team performs 50% Support and 50% Transaction system enhancements to
meet the business demand. You will also collaborate with the BI team to
create an Enterprise Data Warehouse. They currently have an ODS with DM’s
feeding it running on UDB AIX with Informatica for ETL and Cognos for
reporting. There were 4 OLTP systems, now there are 3 OLTP disparate systems

ENTERPRISE DATA ARCHITECT
As the Enterprise Data
Architect you will look horizontally across all of this Fortune 500’s assets
to find ways to maximize value and lower costs of data delivery! You will
define the approach to capturing and representing both business and software
info to turn concepts into actual architecture and design. Determine high
level approaches and modeling guidelines for Enterprise Level application
info processing systems, identify areas for sharing and re-use of systems,
facilitate the B/A’s and Architects construction of data models that bridge
the two roles and keep projects in line. You must be comfortable being in a
boardroom to champion the Enterprise Data Warehouse. Currently Enterprise
Data is delivered by Point-To-Point that has caused an unmanageable amount
of interfaces where the data consumers interpret data inconsistently,
redundant cost to build and maintain legacy ETL, no common dimensions for
Data Access Services, inconsistent database design, no way to measure data
quality. The goal is to lead change to use and see the value of an
Integrated Data Environment where the data consumer can get info from data
sources through the Enterprise Data Warehouse that will deliver a consistent
and manageable view of information, thus eliminating the "Hair-Ball" effect
of the Point-To-Point interface madness. Currently there are 35 Data Sources
consumed from 7 different lines of business that feed 253 Data Publishing
sources. Legacy, source systems sit on M/F DB2, VSAM, and Flat Files using
an outdated ETL tool that performs 95% of the work here. The DW sits on
Oracle and Informatica only doing about 5% of the work! This is leaving
millions of dollars on the table in lost business! This position can turn
into you selecting and managing your
own team of Data Architects depending on your skill level and ambition. 80%
requirements (analysis-level models and process models), Architecture and
Design Presentations, get buy-in! 20% technical (Case Tool and Prototypes).

You will join a team of 5
others. The Manager is hands on but his time is spent 90% mgmt and 10%
technical. They have 5 websites and 1 Intranet. They maintain these sites,
which are a Service Web site, PDA Servicing Website, E-Commerce, and
Pharmaceutical sales which is known as E-Pedigree, and that is the current
hot project with a drop dead date of July 1st for it to go live.
These sites pull from SQL Server databases on Windows, Unix-BAAN (ERP)-Oracle.
WebSphere sites are Java, JSP Pages and are converting all ASP to JSP as
well. SQL Server has 7 D.B.’s in production. The biggest is around 250 gig
and the smallest is 25 gig, which is the B/I web server. Cube development is
done with data beacon-OLAP cubes. The reporting tool is Crystal Reports
using Excel spread sheets. The front-end of static reporting is VB scripting
– Access – VB.6.0-Visual Studio. You will also be creating Stored
Procedures, DTS, queries, and creating tables. No installs, upgrades and
patches. Communication skills are critical to this position. You will be
working directly with the users. The manager describes this part of the
position as a combination of a P/A and B/A, doing requirements gathering and
design testing and coding. This is Full Life Cycle development. 80% Data
mining and reporting, 20 % documentation. As an overall high level view this
position will be 70% technical and 30% user interface. Please contact Casey

you will join a team of 4 where you will spend 50% of your time on Oracle
and 50% of your time in SQL Server supporting new development. Build the
databases right, then build the application on top of it. These systems are
Web-Enabled with WebSphere and J2EE on the front-end. Currently there are
legacy batch jobs that the M/F has an extract program that DTS pulls data
out of to push data downstream. There are about 50 DTS batch jobs that run
every night. The future of this team is to convert all legacy ETL and DTS to
Informatica. Business systems here are Distribution, Sales, Customer MGMT,
and Marketing. You will work with and interact with production DBA’s, DW
Developers, and application developers to gather requirements and understand
the business need. Find how to clean up the batch infrastructure, integrate
back-end systems, clean up the data model, determine the frequency of data
up-load from the M/F, and create reporting requirements. The current project
focus is consolidating systems that are core to the business. There are
currently 3 different DW systems representing 3 different business units.
These 3 systems will be integrated creating an Enterprise Data Warehouse in
Oracle and Informatica in 2007. There is fresh leadership here, even Sr.
Management is from a technical background. They want to create systems right
with a data architecture that is more global. You will create PL/SQL ETL,
DTS Maps, Stored Procedures, Schema Development, Table Design, and Data
Modeling. 50% New Development - Building from scratch back-ends. 50%
Maintenance – Improve performance. Please contact Eric Heineman, at ext.

DBA
You will join a team of
eight DBA’s, two of which will work with you on UDB, while the others are
focused on SQL Server. This role will focus on UDB 8.2 (64 bit) sitting on
Aix and Solaris utilizing Unix Scripting (Korn) to initiate the ETL process,
moving data from the Mainframe. There are a total of 18 UDB databases in the
development, QA, and production environments ranging in size from 2 gig to
300 gig. You will work on the ETL application, Web application and the
Customer Service Agent application, which includes the Master File data and
will have over one terabyte of data just from the initial load, not
including future growth. They currently have all of the data for customers
who have purchased specific products, but need to incorporate all data for
the buyers of other merchandise, since the merger of the two companies. This
initiative will require UDB EEE experience, and these databases will be
web-enabled via Java, JBoss and JDBC. This position will be responsible for
24x7 support of the ETL process, analyzing script failures, table space,
etc., database changes for new development, execute the ETL process, change
control for moving from development environments to production environments
as well as configuring EEE as the additional data is added. You would also

SQL SERVER DBA
The team will consist of
two SQL Server DBAs including the new hire and one full time consultant (DBA).
They have one primary client; two production DBs, that mirror one another.
One 600 gig Datawarehouse, and one System that is continuously available to
client. Currently SQL Server 2000 going to 2005 this year or early next
year! They do interface with Oracle. Extract Transfer Load (ETL) data from a
pervasive DB and Oracle using DTS, a small percent of duties include
pervasive 2%, looking at converting next year. Not sure if that will be SQL
Server. Operating System is running under Windows, the Datawarehouse is Star
Schema. 70% DBA -–30% ETL and Development. SQL DTS and a few Crystal
Reports. They do some logical design and creation of new database mainly for
themselves, in a test environment! B/U and Recovery monitoring tools are SQL
Light Speed. MS tools – TSQL monitoring, they are trying to reduce load
times, it was 36 hours now at 22 hours and working on getting that down to
12 hours. Eventually would like to try to reduce that to 6 hours. Part of
the work is going to be data redistribution, Data Storage allocates space
for data and how it can be distributed across drives. Right now the data is
not set-up to use the number of drives they have, so they have to figure out
how to move data more appropriately. You must know how to configure SQL!
Must have extensive knowledge of the
internal guts of SQL Server, know how to fire fight! Know what steps to take
to figure out why DTS failed. How to load data into warehouse using DTS.
This is 70% DBA side 30% Application side. You will need to know how to do
joins and when to use and when not to use. Contact Kendall and Davis at ext.

out to the U.K. and now have it in full production. They had about 20%
customization of OLM for the U.K. roll out and anticipate this percentage to
increase as they move forward. This customization is where you would spend a
lot of your time. You will focus on Oracle Financials, Forms and Report, and
produce some customized Business Objects reports and depending on the stages
of the project work closely with vendors, clients, Unix team, DBA’s etc.

This data warehouse team sources the
mainframe, UNIX, SQL Server, Straight Oracle and FTP targeting Oracle flat
files. This team is broken into two groups: 1. Supports the financial group.
This is a stand alone process, so it is not as formal, but just as
important. 2. Applications group. This is a more formalized group as is
touches applications throughout the company. Both are in a star schema
environment utilizing Kimble Philosophy (strategy, update logic for changes,
updates, inserts, etc.) You will act as a point person on large project for
both of these groups. They are currently building a data warehouse for their
prescription drug policy that will allow them to use Business Objects to
extract relevant data to make business decisions. Moving into 2006 they will
build another data warehouse for campaign effectiveness to identify how to
increase profitability going forward. You will be the point person for
projects that will help the company determine their business strategy and
revenue projections. Due to the significance of these projects you will need
patience as you work closely with high demand users. This will take more
than a coder; you will need to have interpersonal skills as part of this

DBA
You will join a team of 13 DBAs on the
Enterprise data management team, responsible for DB2 on Z/os, UDB (v.8) and

position will concentrate on UDB, you will have the opportunity to
cross-train on all platforms. There are over 20 UDB databases ranging in
size from 100 gigs. to 2 terabytes, supporting five major applications
including internet banking, customer service, and the call center and fraud
detection. Some of the tools used on these databases include Erwin, Tivoli
and replicated disks for backup/recovery and monitoring. With the exception
of packages specific to a database, all new applications will be supported
by UDB, most of which use a J2EE client interface with a Websphere
component. This company has had Siebel deployed for just over one year for
their commercial sales staff and they are planning to roll Siebel out to all
retail sales to allow them to get better view of their customers. In 2006,
the primary focus will be to expand this Siebel application to their entire
customer base and consolidate the monitoring. They are currently just
hand-writing the scripts but would like it all to be automated. They
currently use Qwest but are not fully utilizing it, so you may analyze
tools, scripts, the movement of data, be involved in some data modeling.
There will be times when you concentrate on a specific application which
will allow you to understand the business in great detail, developing
solutions with a lot of user interface. Position is 40% Logical and 60%
